MASJID BANDARAYA KUCHING

  • 1840

    FIRST MOSQUE BUILT IN KUCHING CITY AND BECAME THE SYMBOL OF ISLAM IN SARAWAK. BUILT BY  DATU PATINGGI ALI, THE MALAY CHIEF OF SARAWAK AT THAT TIME.

  • 1852

    RENOVATION WORK TOOK PLACES TO SUPPORT THE GROWTH OF MUSLIM POPULATION DURING THAT TIME.

  • 1930

    MUSLIM COMMUNITY WITH THE HELP OF KING BROOKE HAS JOINED HANDS TOGETHER TO BUILD AND IMPROVE THE MOSQUE WITH THE NEW HUGE DOOR, WINDOWS, MIMBAR AND MASJESTIC BLACK DOME.

  • 1958

    Lembaga Amanah Kebajikan Masjid Besar Kuching was established as early as 1958.

    Tuan Haji Yusof Shibli, the Sarawak Mufti and President of the Kuching Mosque's Board of Trustees, formed a committee to raise donations for repairing the mosque.

  • 1964

    The Honourable Dato 'Abang Haji Sapuani, P.N.B.S was appointed the President of the Kuching Mosque Welfare Trust Board to carry out the duties of the Donation Committee of Lembaga Amanah Kebajikan Masjid Besar Kuching.

    Following the development of the donation, a new committee was formed chaired by the Honorable Dato 'Abang Haji Marzuki Nor, P.N.B.S.

  • Februari 1966

    His Excellency Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj, the former Prime Minister of Malaysia, had been invited to lay the foundation stone for the new mosque. He suggested that the old mosque be demolished and replaced with a new mosque. The proposal was approved and efforts to raise donations continued with an estimated cost of construction of RM1 million.

  • 1968

    CONSTRUCTION OF A NEW MOSQUE TO REPLACE THE OLD MOSQUE AT A COST OF ABOUT RM 1 MILLION. THIS MOSQUE CAN HOLD A TOTAL OF 4000 PILGRIMS AND IS BUILT ON 4.04 ACRES OF THE OLD MOSQUE SITE.

  • 1980

    UPGRADING OF THE MOSQUE HAS BEEN DONE LIKE THE ADDITIONAL SMALL DOME SHAPE ON THE WINDOW AND RE-PAINT.

  • 1990

    MAINTENANCE WORKS OF THE MOSQUE HAS BEEN DONE


MASJID JAMEK NEGERI SARAWAK

  • The construction of the Jamek Mosque has been carried out in stages. The first phase of construction began in January 1987 at a cost of RM41 million.
  • The State Jamek Mosque of Sarawak which was officiated by Tun Datuk Patinggi Haji Ahmad Zaidi Adruce bin Mohammad Noor, Tuan Yang Terutama Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak on 16 Rabiulawal 1411H / 05 October 1990M.
  • The construction of these two stages can accommodate 14,000 congregation at a time.
  • On the basis of this growth of Muslims, the second phase was built involving the construction of a two-storey mosque as it is now seen to provide an additional capacity of 6,000 congregation. The total cost of the Sarawak State Jamek Mosque is RM72 million.
