LAKMNS is an institution that was incorporated in 1960 under The Mesjid Besar (Kuching) (Charitable Trust) Order, 1960 under the name of the Mesjid Besar (Kuching) Charitable Trust. On the 7th January of 1981, the ordinance was revised into the Masjid Negeri (Sarawak) (Charitable Trust) (Amendment) Order, 1981, hence changing the name to Sarawak State Mosque Charitable Trust or Lembaga Amanah Kebajikan Masjid Negeri Sarawak.

LAKMNS only administers and manages two (2) major mosques, Masjid Jamek Negeri Sarawak dan Masjid Bandaraya Kuching.

4)What is the relationships between MASJA-SA and LAKMNS?

MASJA-SA is the acronym for Masjid Jamek Negeri Sarawak. The name was proposed by His Excellency Tun Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud, former chairman of LAKMNS when he officiated the MASJA-SA Center for Excellence Award Presentation Ceremony for outstanding tuition students in the public examination in 2003. Since then, the name MASJA-SA has been used for tuition classes held at Masjid Jamek Negeri Sarawak. In addition, the name MASJA-SA is also used for the MASJA-SA Recreation Club.
