The Maal Hijrah Festival 1446H/2024, organized by the Sarawak State Mosque Welfare Trust Board (LAKMNS), concluded today after taking place over three days, starting from July 12, 2024. The Maal Hijrah Festival 1446H/2024, organized by the Sarawak State Mosque Welfare Trust Board (LAKMNS), concluded today after running for three days, starting on July 12, 2024. The closing ceremony was officiated by the Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg.

In his opening speech, the Premier of Sarawak said that the concept of hijrah leads us to various dimensions that contribute to positive change. He stated that the state government also embraces the spirit of hijrah through initiatives to explore various new fields, particularly involving technology, biodiversity, and sustainability, which have the potential to bring significant benefits to Sarawak.

His speech was read by the Deputy Minister of Utilities and Telecommunications (Utilities) Sarawak, Datuk Dr. Haji Abdul Rahman Junaidi.

In his speech, LAKMNS Chief Executive Officer Datuk Haji Abang Abdul Wahap bin Haji Abang Julai stated that since its implementation in 2022, the festival has received very encouraging responses, including from non-Muslims.

Datuk Dr. Abdul Rahman also officiated the lowering of the flag as a symbolic gesture to mark the end of the festival.

Also present at the event were members of the LAKMNS Board, heads of Islamic departments and agencies in Sarawak, senior management of LAKMNS, and community leaders from around Kuching.
